About This Project

In January 2025, the Palisades Fire swept through Pacific Palisades, becoming one of the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles history, destroying over 12,000 structures. This cold-formed steel framed residence, built by Wheeler Steel, stood as one of the few homes to survive the inferno while neighboring wood-framed houses were reduced to ash. The CFS construction provided critical advantages: steel doesn't burn, doesn't contribute fuel to fires, and maintains structural integrity at temperatures that would cause wood to combust. This home's survival has become a powerful testament to the fire-resistant properties of cold-formed steel construction, demonstrating why CFS is increasingly specified in California's wildfire-prone regions. The homeowners were able to return to their intact home while their neighbors faced total loss.
